Olefin-paraffin separation by silver-functionalised immobilised ionic liquids

In: Stefan Ioan Voicu, Gheorghe Nechifor (Eds.): Trends in Membranology

Abstract:
Olefin-paraffin separation is one of the most important processes in petrochemical industry. At present it is done by a highly capital and energy intensive low temperature distillation. For this reason many efforts in research are made in finding alternative processes. At the Chair of Chemical Process Engineering, RWTH Aachen University, a new carrier-mediated ionic liquid membrane system based on a porous support and an ionic liquid is developed and characterised for propene-propane separation. Permeation experiments show promising results for the membrane separation properties selectivity and permeability.
