Wolfgang Marquardt, Rüdiger von Watzdorf:

Reduced modeling of complex fluid mixtures by the wavelet-galerkin method

HYPROTECH International Users' Conference, Noordwijk, NL, 8-10.10.1995

Abstract:
A new technique suitable for the reduced, first principle based modeling of complex fluid mixtures applicable to separation and polyreaction systems is presented. The approach brings together the concept of continuous thermodynamics and the promising field of wavelet approximation techniques by means of a Wavelet-Galerkin method. The theory of continuous thermodynamics is reviewed from an approximation point of view and the fundamentals of the Wavelet-Galerkin method are briefly outlined. An implementation of a dynamic process model for a flash evaporator separating a hydrocarbon mixture comprising mass balances and phase equilibria equations is given.

Keywords:
Continuous thermodynamics, multicomponent mixtures, wavelets, Galerkin method, separation processes.
