Modeling and support of modeling processes in chemical engineering

In: K. Mehlhorn, G. Snelting (Eds.): K. Mehlhorn, G. Snelting (Eds.): , Springer Verlag, 2000, 264-273

Abstract:
Mathematical modeling of chemical processes is necessary for the simulation of the process. Simulation experiments play an important role for process design and improvement. The development and modification of mathematical process models are complex work processes whose computer-based support can contribute to reduction of costs and avoidance of errors. Knowledge about the work processes and the product models on which they operate and their formal representation are the basis of such a support functionality. The special requirements posed by the chemical engineering domain under consideration are presented using two example processes. A work process model fulfilling the requirements is presented and an implementation of the computer-based support environment is suggested.

Keywords:
Process modeling, work process support, mathematical modeling.
