Feasibility of batch reactive distillation
AIChE Annual Meeting 2001, Reno, Nevada, 4-9.11.2001
Abstract:
This article addresses gaining design insights into possible product cuts in
batch reactive distillation columns from the geometrical analysis. For binary reactive
systems, a batch rectifier allows us to circumvent a maximum boiling azeotrope while a
batch stripper can eliminate a minimum boiling one. However this design insight cannot
be extended into multicomponent systems such as ternary and quaternary reactive
systems. By visualizing reaction equilibrium manifolds and distillation boundaries in
the
composition space, we can identify possible product cuts in various batch reactive
configurations. More efforts will be made to derive a systematic method for the
evaluation of the feasibility of various batch reactive distillation columns.
