Wolfgang Marquardt, Lars v.Wedel, Birgit Bayer:

Perspectives on lifecycle process modeling

AIChESymp. Ser. 323, 2000, 96, 192-214

Abstract:
The lifecycle concept has been stressed recently in many different ways in particular by the service and software industry. There is still a vague and fuzzy notion of what lifecycle (process) modeling really is and how it should be supported. This contribution tries to clarify the concept of the process lifecycle and the associated lifecycle process model. Different dimensions of integration across the lifecycle are defined. The state of the art regarding these dimensions is reviewed and future challenges are highlighted. A first step towards a comprehensive lifecycle model with emphasis on data rather than work processes is sketched. An advanced (informal) architecture of an integrated modeling tool based on our experience from previous tool development is suggested. Finally, promising areas of research as well as a novel understanding of collaboration between the major contributors towards advanced commercial products are suggested.
