Abstract:
the following chapter describes limits and opportunities of one-phase fluid dynamics moddeling to be used as an optimization and design tool for thixoforming processes. Starting from the general procedure (conservation equations, discretization of these, material function and grid generation) to set up a numerical simulation, examples with different levels of difficulty are presented to demonstrate the influence of the materials flow properties, grid quality and process parameters on the simulation results.

Keywords:
one-phase, simulation, semi-solid
