Process intensification

Within AVT process intensification is seen as the integrative design of phenomena on the meso-scale. By combination of classical chemical engineering, material sciences and mechanical engineering design new compact and miniaturized reactors and instruments of high efficiency can be realized.


Research of AVT focuses for example on efficient mixing- and separation technologies for multi-phase processes of high viscosity, which can or have to be operated at a low temperature level like phyto - and liquid- liquid extraction. Separation of complicated fluid-fluid-system such as foaming liquids or systems with a very low difference in density is made possible by development of new unit operations and separation devices such as membrane contactors. In addition, the development of integrated reaction-separation-systems provides an essential improvement of the common space-time yield of conventional technologies.


Due to the increasing importance of modern membrane technology in water treatment research also focuses on the improvement of membrane apparatus robustness and cost-efficiency.
