Incremental Identification of Transport Phenomena in Laminar Wavy Falling Films
The identification of a suitable transport model from the corresponding system of transport equations in three space dimensions represents a complex, highly nonlinear inverse problem. With this problem, a main difficulty lies in the fact that not only the model parameters, but the model structure itself is unknown. As a consequence, the complex, nonlinear problem has to be solved for each candidate model. Due to its nonlinearity, this problem may, however, not be solvable for incorrect model structures and initial guesses too far from the optimal value.
To overcome this complexity, we will apply the method of incremental identification. This method, which was recently developed at this institute, breaks the problem into simpler consecutive subproblems. In each step, the model structure is refined. This strategy of consecutive refinement allows for a transparent discrimination of a large set of model candidates.
