Determination of concentration and temperature-dependent diffusion coefficients in hydrogels using Raman spectroscopy

Hydrogels are used for many applications in biomedicine, pharmacy and engineering and offer great potential as functional materials, e.g. for tissue engineering, drug delivery, or immobilization of enzyme reactions. In many of these cases mass transport into and within the gel is vitally important. However, the underlying mechanisms are still unfamiliar. This project contributes to the identification of multicomponent diffusion kinetics in hydrogels. For the determination of concentrations within the hydrogel we combine the innovative 1D Raman spectroscopy with a novel spectral analysis technique.
