Polyelectrolyte multilayers on soft and porous substrates

We investigate the layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly of polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM) on soft and porous supports such as microgels. Smart microgels are thermosensitive and characterized by a volume phase transition temperature, ideal for use in drug encapsulation. The challenge is to LbL deposit PEM on substrates of changing size with temperature, softness and porosity. We investigate the influence of the formation and growth of PEM on the stimuli-sensitivity of the microgel.
