Teaching award 2018 goes to: „Applied Chemical Prduct Design“

teaching prize winner   Teaching Award 2018

Since 2001, RWTH has been honoring outstanding teaching at the University. In 2017, the Teaching Award was split into two categories “best teacher” and “best project” to better address the diversity in the area of teaching.

The Teaching Award 2018 in the category “best project” was given to the master course “Applied Chemical Product Design”. The coordinators Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Wessling, Ilka Rose, Daniel Bell and Dana Kaubitzsch received the award during the festive annual review “RWTHtransparent”. However, what makes these course so unique? We provide a first hint in a short movie.

In this course, master students get a first insight into project-based working in cooperation with industrial partners. At the beginning, basics of project development are taught during a two-day workshop. The course continues with a project phase. Here, the students develop their own product ideas into concepts for the solution of an actual problem. They present their concepts to the industrial partner in monthly meetings and a prototype is constructed based on the most promising concept. Hereby, the students acquire important soft-skills like team-work, self-organization as well as time and project management while they put their knowledge from their studies into practice. Furthermore, a first contact between the students and industry is made.

We are happy of being rewarded with this award and hope to see you in the summer semester 2020.
