CVT on Winterschool
In this year again, 46 PhD students, from chemical process engineering (AVT.CVT) of the RWTH Aachen and the University of Twente, went with their supervisors Prof. Matthias Wessling, Prof. Rob Lammertink, Prof. Nieck Benes and Prof. Arian Nijmeijer to the Kleinwalsertal for the Winterschool from 2019/01/12-18. This tradition has been cultivated for eight years now.
Besides a rich lecture program, in which every participant presents his or her research within a 4, 10 or 20 minutes talk, there are ‘Masterclasses’. A group of 4-6 PhD-students prepares a certain topic in advance and presents it to ca. 20 participants. In each one-hour session, which should be as interactive as possible, one of the topics is introduced. This year ‘masterclasses’ in the fields of electrochemistry, microfluidic, membrane fabrication, gas chromatography and NMR were offered. Within the ‘Membrane 2’ session the participants formed 5 groups with four members each. Each group got a task to design a membrane with different properties, applications, and a certain budget. For fabrication different suporting materials (cookies), coatings (dif. liquid chocolates) and functional layers (dif. topings) each for a defined price was supplied. Here, the spin coating of a porous supporting structure (cookie) with a dense layer (chocolate) is shown in the picture.
This exhausting scientific program is completed through physical compensation on the ski slope. Furthermore, we want to thank our organizing team Arputha Paul (Twente), Daniel Bell (AVT.CVT) und Dana Kaubitzsch (AVT.CVT) as well as our sponsor VIVTA e.V – without whom this event would not be possible.
