We present a Lego version of our biorefinery that illustrates our vision of how next-generation products will be produced. With an augmented reality application, we demonstrate what kind of process data could be used for a digital twin. We also present how methods of process analytical technology are the senses of a digital twin and briefly indicate how we make use of digital twins to apply model-based advanced control techniques to dynamically optimize the operation of our biorefinery. In addition, we illustrate how our modular biorefinery provides flexible equipment for the technical conversion of biomass into chemicals.
