Professor Matthias has been admitted to the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences. He is now the 13th RWTH member of the Leopoldina.

"The admission to the Leopoldina represents a very great honor for me personally. But more than that, it is a recognition of the creative contributions of my staff, PhD students, and students over many years. This appointment will continue to motivate our team and me to explore the physicochemical fundamentals and applications of synthetic membranes in the fields of artificial organs, energy storage, hydrogen technologies, CO2 capture and utilization, biomass utilization, and also water desalination," explains Prof. Wessling.

The Leopoldina was founded in Schweinfurt in 1652 and is the oldest continuously existing scientific and medical academy in the world. As an academy, it elects outstanding scientists as its members.
