For the design of industrial extraction apparatuses technical laboratory scale experiments are required. Unfortunately, these experiments are very time- and cost-consuming. To reduce the amount of required experiments to a minimum, a simulation tool based on lab scale single drop experiments has been developed at the chair in the past. Therefore, mass transfer and fluid dynamic phenomena like sedimentation are investigated on representative single drops. The results can then be utilized for prediction of technical lab scale experiments by the ReDrop (representative drop) algorithm. Subsequently, the results of the simulation are validated by experimental literature data like hold-up, drop size distribution and concentration profiles from technical lab scale experiments.
