10 years of brewing competition in HamburgCopyright: AVT
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the international brewing competition of the "Campusperle" at the TU Hamburg, 11 teams competed this year. One of them was the Aachen Sake AG team. Sake is a rice wine that is traditionally brewed in Japan. The master brewers are called "Tojis". This years Sake AG named itself “kaiserliche Tojis”, meaning "Imperial Tojis". The brewed sake varieties stood under the slogan "SPA and Wellness".
The combination of Sake and SPA also inspired the costumes of this years Sake AG. Kimonos and bathrobes were worn to represent the concept. According to the motto SPA, a lemon sake was brewed as well as a "healing sake" containing water from a spring named after roses in Aachen. To add a little more Aachen to the sake, a Printen sake was also brewed and served warm. This sake was presented to the jury during the competition. Its exceptional and pleasant taste convinced the jury. It was described by the jury as "pleasant and not at all sparkling" and the jury also noted that the sake "gets better and softer from year to year". They also mentioned that "the tojis really know what they are doing". As sake is always an exotic beverage alongside the beers of the other participants, this year's Printen creation was honoured as "most extraordinary drink" and won the "Most Fucking Crazy Shit Award".
Not only sake but also "summer rolls" were served for visitors at the stand, which were freshly prepared on site and could be eaten with saté sauce. Furthermore, the AG also provided classic Printen from Aachen. Those were the perfect complement to the Printen Sake.
The third place for the best beer was won by the team from Hannover with their “Love beer”. Second was the team from Dortmund and the "BoKu Brew Crew" from vienna won the first place with their excellent Schwarzbier. Since the BoKu Brew Crew won the "Most Fucking Crazy Shit Award" last year, this gives the Aacheners hope for next year.
