The basic idea of process engineering is to build industrial processes from unit operations components. For all unit operations balance equations are fundamental to model physical phenomena. Besides, dimensional analysis (similitude theory) is an important topic. In particular, the following topics are covered in this class:
- balance equations: general form, overall mass balance, species balances, momentum and energy balances in differential form, integral balance equations
- transport phenomena: mass, momentum and energy
- dimensional analysis and model theory: fundamentals, applications in the fields of mixing and stirring, as well as fluid property models
