This course deals with the mechanical unit operations in chemical engineering. A specific focus lies on particle and separation technologies mainly with at least one solid phase. Main topics of the lecture are
- Basics of the principle of similarity
- Approaches and equipment of milling and grinding
- Surface tension and atomization
- Measurement and plotting of particle size distribution curves
- Sieving: Principles, equipment, fractionation curves
- Migration of solid particles in fluids
- Modelling and design of centrifuges
- Design equations for cyclones
- Flow through a fixed bed, Filtration
- Modeling of filtration equipment and filter media
- Mixing and stirring
