Production of 3D-Membranes for medical engineering and Bioreactors
This project is about the production of a 3D membrane. The inner structure of this membrane has a mathematically-optimized structure to ensure a high spezific surface and to avoid dead zones. Only by 3D printing this special structure (black-D body)can be fabricated. Various casting processes with the printed bodies have already been tested. It can be used molds of printed wax, PVA or Limnosolve. The production of the membrane with various polymers (PDMS and PVDF) is critical and requires further investigation. The finished membranes should be examined for their gas input. The applications are different depending on the structure. One type should be used as artificial lung (ECMO), another structure should be used as the first biological flow tube reactor. The work includes many interdisciplinary approaches in the field of chemistry, process engineering, medicine and biology. The in-house 3D printers should be utilized.
