The chair of Process Systems Engineering (AVT.SVT) is part of Aachener Verfahrenstechnik and is directed since 2012 by Prof. Alexander Mitsos, PhD.
Our research covers different topics of process systems engineering which link chemical engineering with computational engineering science. It is focused on the development of basic principles of mathematical modeling, the combination of experiments and modeling, conceptual process design, process operations and control as well as the development of numerical algorithms and software-tools.
The methodological aspect is complemented by applications in the process industries.
You have received an excellent master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemical/process engineering, energy systems engineering, or a related subject. You have excellent knowledge in engineering and mixture thermodynamics. Prior knowledge in process design and numerical optimization is desired. Strong project management and communication skills are indispensable. Knowledge of the German and English language is required.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
The ongoing shift from fossil to renewable energies is associated with new challenges in the disciplines of production planning and process operation. Specifically, industrial production processes need to be capable of quick and frequent economical changes between different operating points. Your task is to develop process operation concepts for energy-flexible processes together with industrial partners and to test them in demonstrations. Optimization-based methods are of particular importance in the computer-aided development. The candidate will work together with researchers of AVT.SVT and with project partners from science and industry. Furthermore, you will participate in teaching and other chair tasks.
What We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of two years.
It is intended to extend the contract initial contract period by one year. The option to extend the contract for three further years is available.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
